Still sickly, so hibernating in the hostel so that tomorrow I can make the most of it. FINALLY got my hangover kebab. I have only been waiting since Budapest for this!

And also one of the bridges is covered in locks like in Budapest! I guess it’s easier to lock them to a bridge and throw the key in right there than having to walk all the way to the Danube. Good job, Austrians. More efficient than the Hungarians!
Despite being sickly, I decided I should venture out and see Salzburg at night. To be quite honest, other than around the river, it is really dark and kind of creepy. I figured there would be more lighting and more people around, especially where it is a pretty touristy place. Needless to say, I didn’t wander too too far and was back fairly early. Somebody tell my mom I am keeping safe, please!
I happened upon something…… people dancing in the Domsplatz with torches (which they threw into the fountain at the end of the performance) and there were fireworks going off. I think I was more confused than delighted, to be quite honest.
Walked a bit around DT Salzburg.
Even hung out with Mozart a little bit.
But decided to spend the day in a park in overlooking the mountains because, well, I know that tomorrow I will be even sicker than I am today, so I figure I will make the most of today, tire myself out from walking and spend tomorrow napping.

Sick. That is all. But I am drinking plenty of orange juice! This one bottle promises to have 11 freshly squeezed oranges in it. Really, I just like the bottle!

As I have already mentioned, I have always wanted to hear great music being played in Vienna. Unfortunately, I missed the Opera season so I bought a ticket to an orchestra performance instead. Tout d’abord, j’ai eu l’impression que ça pourrait être malorgnisé, mais je suis si contente d’être ici finalement que je m’en fiche. I will make the best of it so that this is a night I had always dreamed of! Anyhow, I am wearing the nicest dress I have with me and I am getting tipsy off white wine. It’s the first time I have had wine in… I can’t remember.
Well, I enjoyed the orchestra after all. So much so that I did not want it to end by the end of the performance. The only thing I did not like was the the performers dressed up in costumes like from the 18th century. To me, this cheapens the performance. Like, as spectators, we should be there to appreciate the music simply and should not rely on theatrics or novelties such as costumes. I think the performance would have been much nicer had they all been wearing suits or something. I mean, hell, it was near to impossible to tell which members of the orchestra were male or female. I don’t think that was perfectly… fair. But, whatever sells right?

Today is Friday, the 13th. The only thing I would consider as bad luck is that it is raining. Other than that, I have passed a wonderful day!
So, I went to the Kunsthistorisches museum where they have the largest collection of Bruegel’s (elder) works in the world! He is one of my favourite artists, so I was quite excited. W.H. Auden mentioned him in one of his poems ‘Musée des Beaux Arts’ so, upon reading that poem, I looked him up and fell in love with his works. Simple as that. I find them amusing and I like his style.
So yeah, had some coffee at Starbucks. The guy working there spelled my name ‘Gulie’ and pronounced it ‘Ghoulie’. I laughed because it was cute… but I think he thought I was mocking him.
So, there are two things that I have always wanted to do in my life. Firstly, to see the aurora borealis and secondly, to come to Vienna and hear some beautiful music. Well, today I accomplish the second item on that list. Well, part of that second item.
But Vienna is not all fun and games.
I was still recovering from my time in Budapest of course.
But the first thing I saw in Vienna was this lovely bed of flowers. I some day hope to have a Treble clef shaped garden as well! Hopefully my future husband is: 1. A music lover and 2. has a green thumb. Here’s to hoping! Also, I have now been to 30 cities in the last 6 months! Crazy!
I have always had this image of Vienna, one of elegance and extravagance. Home to great musicians and intellectuals wearing beautiful clothing, drinking coffee, promenading in the streets surrounded by majestic buildings. Today, I finally get to see and know Vienna. Now, when my imagination takes flight, it will at least be accurate. As everyone already knows anyway, I am a bit crazy. Naturally I would walk through the gardens and grand streets, pretending myself to be eighteenth century nobility. A girl can dream, right?!
